DIDI BENAMI RELEASES DEBUT SINGLE ā€œGASOLINEā€ ON MAY 23, 2012

LOS ANGELES, CA ā€“ The wait is over! Singer Songwriter Didi Benami independently releases her debut single ā€œGasolineā€ on May 23, 2012. An honest and bittersweet song about letting go or hanging on- Gasoline embarks on a journey of love and relationship. The lyrics are fragile as they are fearless. The music reflects nostalgia, of yearning for the past however troublesome or dark, and ultimately, of acceptance and coming to terms.

Didi Benami captivated the hearts of millions with her one-of-a-kind voice, endearing charm, and emotional performances as a finalist on the 9th season of American Idol.

Born in New York City, Didi moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of seven. A self-taught guitar player, Didi has been performing for audiences her entire life. While she always had a passion for music, it was not until she lost her best friend and Belmont University roommate, Rebecca Joy Lear, in a car accident, that Didi began to pursue music as a career. Didi firmly believes ā€œyou never know what is going to happen tomorrow, so you might as well do what you love today. Tomorrow is not a promise.ā€

Ā

Gasoline will be included in the yet untitled EP with all original songs co-written by Didi scheduled for release late this year.

Didi describes her music as a ā€œsoulful, rock-popā€ sound, with organic roots ā€” a new kind of pop, but still confessionals that are ā€œtruthful and real.ā€

Gasoline is a collaboration with prolific singer/songwriters Justin Gray and Chris Seefried who both also produced the song. The recording is mastered by Grammy award winning mastering engineerĀ Brad Blackwood of Euphonic Masters.

THR: Didi and other American Idol alums weigh in on the X Factor

By Shirley Halperin and Fred Bronson, The Hollywood Reporter

What do the Idols like about X Factor and what do they hate? What were their expectations for the new Fox show and what do they think of the judges they know personally, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul? The Hollywood Reporter polled a number of former finalists to see what they thought of the newest talent competition series on the block and discovered that Idols have a wide range of opinions. Here’s what Didi had to say:

THR: What do you like about X Factor U.S.?

Didi: ā€œI like that the judges are working with the kids and mentoring them, unlike on Idol. I think that is a great setup and it has to be more appealing for the contestants to know that there is someone gunning for you on the judging panel. It also makes for less confusion in a time where there is so much thatā€™s new and unlike anything you’ve ever done before.”

THR: Your thoughts on the judges, especially Simon and Paula and what itā€™s like to see them on a different showā€¦

Benami: ā€œI like seeing Simon and Paula on a show together again, I think the on- camera chemistry they have is really something, and it seems to have only grown after their time on Idol. I love Paula, so I’m glad that she gets to do this again because she’s a sweetheart and is always positive, supportive, and really good for this sort of show. And I think Simon tends to be a lot nicer (as all of the judges are) off-camera than on.ā€
